Effective Monday, July 21, tolling on the Tobin Bridge will officially convert to the all electronic format.

In advance of that, MassDOT has removed the three toll booths on the left side of the existing toll plaza; drivers will proceed through the open lanes without stopping.  After the remaining booths are removed the lanes will be shifted back to the center of the bridge.

The new toll system will eliminate the need for customers to pay the toll in cash.

Passenger Vehicle customers with an E-ZPass Transponder will continue to pay a discounted toll of $2.50; Passenger Vehicle Customers without a transponder will “pay by plate” where the newly installed tolling gantries will take an image of the license plate and an invoice will be sent to the address listed on the vehicle registration.

Passenger vehicle pay-by-plate customers will pay the current $3.00 cash toll; and Commercial Vehicle Customers with an E-ZPass Transponder will continue to pay the current rates, however, Commercial Vehicle pay-by-plate Customers will be charged an additional $0.50

MassDOT strongly encourages drivers to sign up for E-ZPass transponders by visiting www.mass.gov/ezpassma, or by calling 1-877-627-7745
