From the Town of Winthrop:
Due to the failure of a 15 foot deep sewer man-hole structure and approximately 30 feet of sewer main on Washington Avenue in the area of Elmwood and Lewis, the town is undergoing an emergency repair. This work will cause traffic detours in this area starting today and most likely through the weekend. By-pass pumps and piping will be set up today in this area to manage flows during this construction work. Police officers will be on-site at all times during construction to ensure safety and mitigate traffic in the construction zone. Detours can be expected for the duration of this work. It is our goal to expedite this work and restore normal traffic flows before Monday mornings commute. If timelines change we will update this message. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience associated with this work.
